The record — and the impact — behind every lot.

Every lot Circle8 sources, grades and moves gets a documented chain of custody: who supplied it, what the lab found, what it was priced against on BMx, and where it ended up. Trace turns that record into a report you, your customer or your auditor can rely on.

How Trace works01

One record, from pickup to certificate.

Trace doesn’t run separately from TradeHub and BMx — it’s the file that gets built automatically as a lot moves through them.

  • Source & assay

A lot is collected through TradeHub and sent for independent assay. Weight, chemistry and moisture are logged against the seller.

  • Price & move

The lot is valued against the BMx payable benchmark, then shipped to a verified recycler or refiner with a custody-transfer document.

  • Verify & report

The recycler confirms input and recovered output. Trace closes the file with a certificate and an impact summary you can share.

Impact reporting03

The numbers behind the record.

Every documented lot rolls up into Circle8’s impact figures — and, on request, into a report scoped to your own volumes.

What’s in the file04

Documents Trace keeps for every lot.

  • Collection receipt: weighbridge slip and seller acknowledgement from TradeHub.
  • Lab assay report: independent chemistry and moisture results.
  • BMx price reference: the payable benchmark the lot was valued against.
  • Custody transfer: e-way bill and shipment record to the recycler or refiner.
  • Recycler acknowledgement: confirmed input weight and recovered metal output.
  • Impact summary: CO₂e avoided and material recovered for that lot.
Common questions

About Trace

001What is Trace, exactly?

Trace is the documented record Circle8 keeps for every lot it sources or moves — who supplied it, what the lab found, what it was priced against on BMx, and where it ended up — plus the recycling impact (CO₂e avoided, material recovered) that record adds up to.

002Is the lot lookup on this page live?

Not yet — it’s a demo showing what a Trace record looks like. Live lookup by lot ID is on the roadmap.

003Can I get an impact report for my own lots?

Yes. The figures on this page are Circle8’s aggregate traction to date; a report scoped to your own volumes is generated on request through your Circle8 contact.

004How is CO₂e avoided calculated?

The reference methodology is ICRIER, Technology Roadmap for EV Battery Recycling: Ensuring Circularity of EV Battery Supply Chain, which sets out how recycling’s emissions compare with mining and refining the same battery metals from ore. Circle8 applies reduction factors from that framework to the tonnage supplied to recyclers to date; exact factors are recalibrated as we get more of our own recyclers’ process data.

005Do I need to use TradeHub or BMx to get a Trace record?

Trace records are built automatically for lots that move through TradeHub or BMx. If you’re sourcing or moving material with Circle8 another way, ask your contact about getting it documented too.
